It was just announced that Jude Law will play young Dumbledore in the next Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them movie, so based on what we know about him/his previous roles, here are five reasons he’ll make an excellent Albus!
He’s Kind of Mysterious
Dumbledore is kind, brilliant, cheeky, and most of all, mysterious. He’s always got a twinkle in his eye, or a furrow in his brow. So many times throughout the Harry Potter books, though, we had to guess what he was thinking, because Dumbledore doesn’t give much away. We didn’t even know he was gay until JK Rowling revealed it after all the books had come out, for crying out loud! Jude Law will definitely be able to play the cheeky, elusive side of Dumbledore that both makes us swoon and drives us (and Harry) crazy.
He’s Not Johnny Depp
Ugh, can you imagine if they’d given this role to Johnny Depp? It would literally ruin the entire Harry Potter franchise as we know it. I’m not saying he’s a bad actor, I’m saying I can’t take one more quirky, over-the-top Johnny Depp character. (Update: I JUST read an article that said Jude’s Dumbledore falls in love with Johnny’s Grindelwald in the second movie. UGH. I’D COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN JOHNNY DEPP ALREADY HAD AN OVER-THE-TOP CHARACTER IN THE FANTASTIC BEASTS FRANCHISE).
He Can Pull Off Facial Hair
Will Dumbledore have a full beard in this movie? We don’t know, but we DO know that Jude Law does not look bad with facial hair, just in case.
He’s Pretty Hot
Jude Law has always been very hot, and even in his later years, he’s “still got it”, as they say. While the Dumbledore we know and love from the books was always wayyyyy too old to objectify, Jude has that “ever-sexy” quality about him, no matter how deep his hairline recedes. Dumbledore deserves to be played by someone with this ever-sexy quality, just because.
He Knows How to Play the “Young Version” of a Character
Jude has been straight-up killin’ it playing the young version of a Pope (who are usually very old), so there’s no doubt he can bring in that old-worldly wisdom combined a fiery youthful desire to f*ck sh*t up to the role, which are the exact kinds of qualities that a young version of a Dumbledore needs.
